Book Burning: Fahrenheit 451  by Ray Bradbury * An Overview and Analysis * Novel and Film Adaptation

In this section we will embark on an exploration and analysis of the novel. We will be reading extracts from the novel, watch videos, visit webpagesstudy texts to get an insight and write an essay.

Assignments:

  • First, watch an introductory video with the basics of the novel offered by CliffsNotes.
  • Then, study the Overview offered by ThoughtCo.
  • Next,you  watch a video released by GradeSaver , consult the videoTranscript and do the task.
  • Watch the official trailer of the 1966 movie adaptation of the novel by Truffaut.
  • Read the History of Bannings and Burnings of Books. (New entry: March 2021)
  • Watch the videos by TedEd: Why should you read Fahrenheit 451  and How to Recognise a dystopia. Follow the link for the 1st video and go through THINK and DIG DEEPER sections on your right. Then, complete the task in the doc. about the dystopia video.
  • Have a look at the video on Symbolism in the novel.
  • And choose one of the 3 (three) essays to write your view.

Mainly, it is addressed to those students who will be taking the Exam, but since it will be part of our classes it is compulsory for all.

Technology for Human Rights

We will visit United Nations, Human Rights Office and see how technology can be effectively targeted at combating violations of Human Rights globally. Next, we move to the European Court of Justice(ECJ) and read about its ruling on "the right to be forgotten" and GOOGLE. Last, we take part in celebrating Anti-Corruption Day by the United Nations  , 9 December.

Your assignments:

  • Study the set of texts
  • Answer the questions on all texts and do the fill in the gaps task.
  • Watch the relevant videos released by the UN, CNA News Channel and TEDx Talks.
  • Do a Writing Production task
