Learning to fly * Module 4 * Blackbirds,Seagulls and The Beatles!
In this section of Module 4 , we will get inspiration from nature and try to view our lives from a fresh perspective. We will watch blackbirds in their natural habitat and complete relevant tasks.
Assignments:
- First, follow the link Common blackbird from wikipedia.org, watch blackbirds in action and listen to their songs.
- Watch the Power Point Presentation.
- Next, open up your e-book on pages 52,53,54 and 55 to see what it is all about.
- Next, plunge into Creative Writing, making up your own story of a blackbird.
- Listen to The Beatles singing "Blackbird", have a look at the lyrics in the Doc. and do Ex. 7 on page 56.
- Note down positive or negative ideas presented in the song and compare the song with your Short Story in Ex. 3.
- Continue with another story - a novella by Richard Bach: Jonathan Livingston Seagull. Read the brief summary and do Ex. 9 on page 58.
- Visit the webpages, listen to an audio reading of the book in YouTube and watch the video with a brief plot summary.

- Next, practise via the exercises offered at the bottom of the webpages.
- Follow also the links and do the Exercises from Perfect English Grammar.

- Finally, do the Mixed Exercise (Check your answers with the Key).

In Part II of Module 2 we will visit the UNHCR webpage and "meet" real people and their stories of everyday struggle for survival.We will watch a video and complete relevant tasks.
Assignments:
- First, comment, provide your view on the Quotations in your book on page 17.
- Then, read the stories of Muzon, Mesfin and Emmanuel.
- Next, watch the video about Muzon's life in the refugee settlement in Jordan.
- Follow also the links to UNHCR, relevant to the stories.
- Complete the tasks on page 18 Ex. 6, Ex. 8 pages 24-25, Exs. 9, 10 and 11 on pages 26-27, all related to the stories of Muzon and Mesfin.
- Answer the Questions at the end of Emmanuel's story.
- Consult the Glossary (Vocabulary) on Muzon and Mesfin texts and do the Vocabulary Exercise from the link provided.
- Finally, watch the video with Cate Blanchett and do the Writing Production Activity.

In this module we will visit the UNHCR (United Nations High Commission for Refugees) and we will learn about their work and contribution to communities worldwide. You are invited to watch videos and complete the assignments that follow.
Assignments:

- Read the Introductory Notes Document on the Module and do the tasks.
- Open the UNHCR Document to explore basic relevant vocabulary on the issue and complete the gap-filling exercise.

Next, you study the article on Alcohol consumption in Greece in your book pages 69-70.
You follow Millie Gooch's true story of her struggle to be alcohol-free - an Interview.
Assignments:
- Complete all tasks and Exercises in your book, based on the article (Reading Comprehension and Vocabulary) pages 70,71 and 72.

- Produce a short Writing commenting on Millie's path to sobriety.
