Make groups of 2- 4 students and choose one of the following topics to discuss in a powerpoint presentation.

Topic 1

Analyzing modern slang and idioms

- Explore common current slang terms

- Definition and origin of 5-7 chosen terms

 

Topic 2

The power of symbolism in a specific film/novel.

- Choose a single/iconic symbol and analyze its significance through the work.

- Provide 3-4 instances where the symbol appears.

- Explain what the symbol represents.

- Conclude with the symbol's overall impact on the story' s theme. 

 

Topic 3

A deep dive into a poet or lyricist.

- Choose one poet or songwriter and analyze their writing style.

- Brief biography

- Analysis of 2-3 pieces of work

- Identify and explain their common use of literary devices (metaphors, alliteration)

 

Topic 4

The language of advertising/ Manipulation and persuasion

- Analyze how language and rhetorical devices are used in commercial or print ads to persuade consumers

- Define key rhetorical techniques (ethos, pathos, logos)

- Show 3- 4 examples of different advertisements

- Explain which rhetorical technique is used in each ad and why it is effective

 

Topic 5

The importance of punctuation and grammar

- Choose a specific punctuation mark (eg the semicolon or the apostrophe) or a grammatical concept (eg the passive voice) and explain its rules and how misuse can dramatically change meaning

- Clear rules and history of the chosen element

- Examples of correct usage

- Funny or confusing examples of misuse (eg Let's eat, Grandpa vs Let's eat Grandpa)

 

Topic 6

How can music affect your lifestyle/ mood?

- Use examples from your personal experience and support them with scientific evidence

- How do different music genres change a person's mood?

 

Topic 7

What is your opinion about globalization? Should we embrace it or not?

- Mention the key aspects of the term

- What are the effects it has on countries and their citizens?

 

Topic 8

What is your favorite artistic movement? Elaborate

- Why do you find it appealing?

- Mention some historical information about the movement and the artists who served it.

- Was this movement a reaction to society? Why was it created?
