My experience as a Syrian refugee

Imagine that you are a young Syrian refugee aged 15 and you live in 2016 so you have been in Greece for a year and now you live in Tilos. You have been asked to write a paragraph for the Tilos school newspaper to tell people about your experiences as a refugee. You can write about your crossing to Rhodes and the time you spent there or about your life in Tilos now, how you feel being a refugee, the difficulties or the good things that have happened to you. Before writing your text you can watch one video that might give you some ideas:

You can use the vocabulary you have recorded in the mind-map and the vocabulary flashcards of the unit. Write about 100 words.

When you finish your paragraph check the following points:

1. Have you given your paragraph an interesting title/heading?

2. Have you started with a nice sentence that attracts attention?

3. Have you used some words from the mind-map and the vocabulary flashcards?

4. Have you written all the text in "I"?

5. Have you used the past tense to talk about your past experiences and present tenses to talk about your routines and your life now?

6. Have you used semi-formal linking words such as and, too, but, as well, also, besides, although, otherwise, instead, in any case, however, etc.

7. Have you read your text when you finished to check for any grammar or vocabulary mistakes you may not have seen?
