1st PHASE : INTRODUCTION TO THE TECHNIQUES OF RHETORIC
Presenting the new subject to the students.
Hello everyone! I hope you are all doing fine! Today we are going to be talking about RHETORIC TECHNIQUES and how they can help us create successful speeches, very much appealing to our audiences.
It was Aristotle who first defined the three rhetorical appeals-pathos, ethos and logos, hundreds of years ago but they are just as relevant today
The term “rhetoric” often gets a bad rap, since in modern times it is associated with obscuring the truth. However, Aristotle's rhetoric instead, relates to the ability to see or identify in any given circumstance the available means of persuasion.
Evidently, this ancient art is often employed by writers, advertisers, politicians, etc
OK, now. Really, what makes a speech efficient? What are these features that consist of a successful speech or are they mainly a matter of gift (charisma)? I mean to say, can we learn how to make a good speech? Are there any guidelines, any techniques? What do you think?
In this unit, you will learn how to recognize, detect and be able to use them in the end.
For a starter and before we meet on WEBEX (DATE and TIME), I want you to :
1.make a mindmap with at least four features that you think make a speech efficient, using (εννοιολογικό χάρτη- mindmap ή συννεφόλεξο στην eclass) . What are these elements that you think are basics for an efficient and well-appealing speech?
Now do this matching exercise on Wordwall
This time you have to watch one more video on ETHOS - LOGOS - PATHOS and do one more Wordwall activity
for futher Consolidation
I am sure this quiz is going to make you feel better! OK, READY? OF YOU GO!!!
Is everything alright? I'm sure it is! How about watching one last short video with
Barak Obama giving a speech? Don't worry they are just excerpts of it!!
There are some questions waiting for answers, right then.
OK, fine! Let's do it!!
