Creating and using visual schedules
A visual schedule is a fundamental tool that transforms abstract information into concrete visual information, acting as a roadmap for students with ASD. By arranging symbols, photos, or objects in sequence, it answers the critical question "What comes next?", thereby providing predictability and reducing the anxiety often associated with transitions. The schedule fosters independence by allowing students to navigate their day without constant verbal direction from adults. To be effective, the schedule must be individualized to the student's specific developmental level, ranging from concrete objects to written lists. |

Creating and using a work system
The Work System takes over once the student arrives at that destination. While the schedule provides the destination, the Work System answers "what to do" utilizing objects, pictures, or words to clarify the specific activities or tasks that must be completed at that station. |

Creating Structured activities
While the Work System organizes a sequence of jobs, a structured activity organizes the materials within a single task. The purpose of structured activities is to keep the person busy, practice using visual information, practice emerging skills, to obtain a working behavior and increase on-task behavior. Structured activities should be meaningful to the student and target to practice important skills. |
